We examined the taxi operation data of two taxi companies that use GPS、 and the data of four bus companies providing local service. Our survey targeted trunk roads in Sapporo (population 1.85 million) during two periods: one of record snowfall、 and one by which time snow removal had been completed. It enabled us to investigate the influence on traffic by sudden phenomena、 such as a heavy snowfall. This method enabled conduct to survey on traffic ability in the whole city during snowfall、 which had previously been difficult to conduct. It became possible to clarify the impact of heavy snowfall on the traffic flow of major trunk roads in Sapporo. Additionally、 we attempted to calculate the loss of road traffic ability due to heavy snowfall、 because it is possible to assume that snow removal can mitigate this loss. |
