Hokkaido is a land of abundant greenery located at the northern end of Japan and surrounded by sea. The cold is especially severe、 with sub-zero temperatures continuing for more than 4 months in most areas during winter. Since the amount of snow is also large compared with overseas regions、 Hokkaido is among the regions with harshest weather conditions in the world. For taking measures against cold regions using our original civil engineering technologies、 Civil Engineering Research Institute for Cold Region (CERI) located in Sapporo City of Hokkaido、 Japan、 was established. Authors show an introduction on traffic engineering research for cold region in Japan by CERI.

抄録
