In northern communities、 icy、 slippery roadways appear during wintertime. Traffic performance on roadways is deteriorated. Road authorities attempt to provide as good winter roadway condition as possible. In order to strategically provide snow and ice control activities、 it is required implementing an effective winter maintenance decision support system. Especially、 bridges need more attention because of higher percentage of winter accidents than roadways、 likely due to different pattern of pavement temperature between bridges and roadways. Therefore、 in order to enable more effective winter maintenance through accurate forecasts of bridge pavement temperature、 this study explores the bridge-pavement temperature estimation by applying a heat-balance model. The significant features of this model are to consider heat transfer at the bottom of bridge deck and to concern the influence of the running vehicles. |
