Authors are developing day and night watching system by laser camera for slope failure. In the system、 watching during daytime is carried out by high-definition color CCD camera and at night by irradiating low power and highly directional laser camera light toward the subject. Though the equipment of the system is very expensive、 the system has many advantages. For example、 it can watch slopes without light source with low cost and it is less influenced by weather change than that by infrared camera. However、 to make the system be of practical use、 relation among irradiation range、 strength of laser irradiation、 and the resolution should be confirmed. Authors adopted pre-set function of ordinary camera system (12 pictures are obtained at most)、 and carried out a test to determine proper passive power of laser. As a result、 proper passive power was confirmed to be 200nW. Then proper irradiation power and angle of laser for different target distance was calculated as follows: limited distance for proper irradiation with maximum angle (10°) and horizontal width (17.0m) is calculated as 96.4m. Irradiation power should be controlled to keep proper passive power as 200nW under the distance、 while irradiation angle should be controlled to keep horizontal width as 17.0m.
