Authors performed large scale experiments of levee breach caused by overtopping、 using a full-scale model levee at the Chiyoda experimental flume. By taking advantage of the scale merit of the flume、 authors monitored the progress of levee breaches and the hydraulic values such as overflow rate under highly precise conditions with state-of-art devices. Four test Cases were performed with variations in flow rate、 levee material and levee shape to enable observation of the levee breach process under different conditions、 and the related breach mechanism and overflow rate were quantitatively analyzed. Authors simulated the experiment results by a parameter equation method and a numerical modeling method、 and identified some merits and demerits of the both methods regarding the prediction capability of the overflow rate. |
