In this paper, the shock absorbing performance of a three-layered cushion system using an RC core slab reinforced with Aramid Fiber Reinforced Plastic(AFRP)rods is discussed on the basis of experimental results. This system consists of an RC core alab, sand (top) and Expanded Poly-Styrol (bottom). In order to study the influnce of the properties of the RC core slab on the shock absorbing performance, both the material and the rebar ratio and the thickness of the RC core slab were taken as variables. Furthermore, these results were compared with the results when a single sand layer was used. The results obtained from these experiments are as follows:(1) the transmitted impact stress of the three-layered cushion system was distributed more effectively than that of the single sand layer,(2) shock absorbing perfomances of the three-layered system were influnced by the properties of the RC core slab and (3) AFRP rods were useful for reinforcing the RC core slab in the three-layered cushion system. |
