Introducing and preservating riparian vegetation have increased recently to improve the river environ -ment.However,river vegetation-related issues on flood control and biodiversity have been recognized.Of particular concern is tree and bushes growth obstructing the flow of the river and causing sand bars to disap-pear.For these reasons, understanding the dynamics of riparian vegetation is crucial to assist in planning river channels and flood control. The dynamics of riverbank vegetation is mainly governed by changes, such as sediment transport and overhead flooding. The variation in magnitude and frequency of changes with weather condition, river works, and dams are estimated to affect the long-term changes of vegetation. This study addressed the present condition and changes in the vegetation of the Toyohira River,a river whose flow condition and channel have been changed by river improvement works and dam construction. In addition,we made a basic analysis of the factors of such changes in vegetation. |
