In general, the vertical movements of earthquakes are said to have smaller effects on strctures compared with horizontal movements. However, the Great Hanshin Earthquake (Hyogo-Ken Nambu Earhqudke)showed the possibility that vertical earthquake vibrations could be larger in the hypocentral region.[*]Therefore,to obtain data for a seismic design by elucidating the vibration characteristics of the vertical movements of structures(bridge piers, abutments)against the verticalmovements of the ground surface, ratio analyses of spectrum which is transferred from the ground to the pier was conducted using acceleration strong-earthquake waves recorded at the time of recent earthquake which caused severe damage in Hokkaido,Japan. |
